What Will You Do?

We have a brand-spankin’-new café and now it needs an orchestrator. That’s where you come in.

You will take the lead in building the experience, the team, and the operations of the Kicking Horse Coffee Café, which opens in 2022. Full disclosure, there’s lots of work to be done, like setting up the tools, resources, and programs needed to create the ultimate café experience for everyone who walks through our doors, including our team! Leading a mucho talented team of individuals, you will build a mountain café experience that creates connection. Connection to coffee. Connection to delectable food. Connection to source. Connection to each other. You will make this happen by doing the following:



  • Inspire a kick-ass team to deliver an exceptional experience to our customers and create an engaged and meaningful experience for the team.
  • Build a team of energized and inspired leaders and staff in the kitchen and café, through regular coaching and guidance, and fostering their love for both coffee and people.
  • Communicate regular information and updates to ensure a smooth flow of information to the entire team.
  • Connect the team with the entire Kicking Horse Coffee team, breaking down any silos
  • Support your leaders with their daily operations, people updates, support and recognition. Create space for your leaders to bring up ideas, concerns, progress, and suggestions.
  • Work with the leaders to ensure consistent training and development delivery for everyone, support in developing a skills matrix to drive growth and development opportunities.
  • Lead by example food safety and work safety practices. Instill a safety-first approach.

Coffee & Food

  • Work with internal resources to elevate the level of coffee knowledge for the café team, ensuring that only exceptional tasting coffee is served.
  • Develop seasonal menus with emphasis on variety, local, fresh, health-conscious and delicious food offerings; set the standard, build the concept, and help our kitchen team deliver.
  • Ensure lunch program is executed, consistently and at an agreed standard and assist supervisor with preliminary lunch menu development and periodic menu review.
  • Support training for the staff on all things related to coffee and food.
  • Working with leaders, ensure a high standard of coffee and food. Create opportunities for input and ideas. Work with our partner on menu development and evolution.
  • With the Kitchen Supervisor, connect with local food providers such as farmers to source local products.

Customer Service

  • Fully leverage internal resources and tools (Marketing, Finance, and People & Culture) to ensure we consistently exceed customer and employee expectations. Elevate the level of salesmanship on the team.
  • Create opportunities to deepen the connection between our community and the café.
  • Assist supervisor with establishing presentation guidelines and expectations including defining room setup and maintenance standards:

Business Management

  • Craft new and refine existing Standard Operating Procedures related to quality, cleanliness, levels of service and safety; ensure consistent competence building and team accountability.
  • Build the training manuals in collaboration with key stakeholders. Continually update these as needed and ensure alignment to Soul and Spirit, branding and training service delivery.
  • Develop, adjust, manage and be accountable for the café budget; this includes sales, administration, inventory, staffing and other financial management.
  • Handle financial responsibilities- process invoices in a timely manner, pay bills, allocate to correct expense accounts, payroll processing, bank reconciliation, all month-end processes.
  • Establish, roll out and monitor the KPI’s that are aligned and motivate performance.
  • Work with the leaders on all food safety, work safety and security compliance and governance.
  • Manage food and beverage costs, revenues, and budget variances. Work with team to analyze data and find ways to shift as needed to ensure solid budget management, cost and revenue planning.
  • Work in collaboration with all KHC internal departments such as purchasing, finance and others to find ways to streamline product management such as supply management.
  • Act as the bridge for the Marketing and Sales team and the Café, bringing our brand to life through our exceptional product and customer experience

Experience & Education

  • Not your first rodeo: You’ve run a restaurant or café before. You have experience on the business and finance side, the customer side, and the product side.
  • People-leader: you have demonstrated experience leading and managing a dynamic group of talented employees.
  • Awake in the F&B biz: You are savvy to the latest trends with food and cafés through blogs, favorite restaurants, and a network that keeps you current.
  • In tune with tech: you have a strong working knowledge MS Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. You love a good digital efficiency.
  • Experience with other tech systems such as POS and Purchasing platforms. Other platforms you may know include: Lightspeed, QuickBooks, Bev-Spot, Payworks or Push Operations.
