Sustainability

We need coffee beans.

We need a LOT of really kick-ass coffee beans.

And we need them to be good. For everyone. Consistently.

That’s why we only use certified Fairtrade and Organic coffee.

Why Fairtrade?

Coffee is one of the most-traded commodities in the world.

The coffee trade can be volatile, unpredictable, and subject to dramatic price fluctuations.

We are only interested in using coffee that is good and fair for both our coffee drinkers and for farmers. We believe we can’t have one without the other.

Fairtrade is a system that offers better trading conditions, empowers farmers, and helps them to invest in their community’s future. Instead of reactive aid, Fairtrade promotes proactive tools, training, and practices for farmers to run smart, successful, and sustainable businesses. Fairtrade supports developing farmers' independence. Fairtrade gives the ability for farmers and communities to create warehousing and processing plants. Fairtrade can also help to achieve Organic certification.

And what is of great significance to Kicking Horse Coffee, Fairtrade helps our farmers to grow with us, to help provide for our growing demand. Click here to learn more.

Why Organic?

Here’s what organic means to us.

It means good products and principles.

The best in coffee, and the best in intentions.

Here’s what it means for our drinkers.

Our coffee is pure, pesticide free, full of flavour, and guaranteed to be good, because it’s organic. It means our coffee is tested by independent auditors, randomly and without warning, for pesticides and herbicide residuals. It keeps our coffee growers accountable to us, so we can be accountable to our coffee drinkers. Fairtrade organic sustainable

Organic Coffee for sustainability

Here’s what it means for the world.

It means that the soil where our coffee grows is enriched and natural. It means the farmers we depend on have better security and sutainable farming practices. It means more consistent yields and consistent incomes for the farming families and communities we source from. It means less long-term health and respiratory illnesses for families and farmers exposed to pesticides. It means smart farming, planning for tomorrow, and not sacrificing the future. Organic means not compromising. Not settling for anything less than the best.

And we’ve only got one other thing to say about all that.
Thank you to the community

Thanks.

Thanks to the people who believe that good coffee can be better.

Thanks to the people who believe that good coffee can be better. Thanks to the people who believe that great coffee should feel great too. Thanks to the people who choose to be part of our story, and who are in turn part of good story that wakes up the world, one cup at a time.
